In observance of the first anniversary of the podcast, we look back at some of our favorite moments - Hannibal's early days on the western frontier with Cindy Lovell, how Don Farout was late for his own funeral at Mt. Olivet Cemetery with Donna Brown, the misconceptions about Molly Brown with Lisa Marks, and, of course, no look back would be complete without the saga of Val Kilmer.

We have always invited you to suggest topics to cover. This time, we fill a request for information on the history of the Mark Twain Memorial Lighthouse. Yes, we understand that you don't normally find lighthouses on rivers, but Hannibal has one. And, we're working on our third different structure in the same location. Plus, it's kinda cool that we've made it to The Big 4-0, episode-wise.

Whether you're a participant or a spectator, one of the highlights of Hannibal's annual National Tom Sawyer Days celebration is something called the Hannibal Cannibal. Our guest is Angie Wilcoxson, who spends this episode knocking down every excuse you might have to not run (or walk) in the Cannibal. A long time ago we reached the conclusion that, while it was Mark Twain that put Hannibal on the map, it was the mighty Mississippi that put Mark Twain on the map. Our guest is Steve Terry, owner and captain of the Mark Twain Riverboat. We learn, among other things, that Captain Steve shares that passion for the river that inspired Sam Clemens all those years ago.

By now, you probably know that 2019 is Hannibal's bicentennial year. But, did you know that as part of the celebration, there's going to be a log cabin built from scratch as a tribute to Hannibal's earliest citizens. And who better to head up this project than Hannibal's resident Renaissance Man, Jim Waddell. And when we say from scratch, we mean from the woods from scratch.

It's been so long since our last episode, we skipped 34 and went straight to episode 35 (not really ... long story). We finally got to sit down with Steve Chou and visit about a childhood hobby that got completely out of hand. His passion for collecting pictures showing Hannibal's past evolved into a passion for learning the history behind the pictures. Plus, Steve's plugs his book, "Hannibal-Bluff City Memories."

On episode 33, Kristine and Steve Russell talk about the journey that led them here as long time owners and operators of the Dubach Inn. And, how cool is it to hear the guy on the trolley bragging to the tourists about YOUR house.

No, that's not a misprint. We have officially designated this as episode 32.5 of the podcast. This time, as always, we inform and entertain, but the main purpose of this episode is to let know that we're still here, since it's been a couple of weeks since episode 32. Fear not, more interesting people and topics are on the way, assuming the weather straightens up.
