In this podcast, we have covered a lot of ground talking about who and what makes Hannibal unique. But, it occurred to us that we haven't talked a lot about the guy who put Hannibal on the map. So, if you've never been, or it's been too long since you've been to the Mark Twain Boyhood Home Complex, episode 31 covers the half dozen properties to need to visit to do, "The Mark Twain Thing."

As episode 28 of the podcast is recorded, it is nearly December, a season of giving, a season of giving back, and a season of service. Our guest is Caitlin Smyth, the team leader of a group of AmeriCorps volunteers, coming together from all over the country to work with Douglass Community Services on the Toys for Tots program, and a program to provide after school meals to Hannibal students. Caitlin is from New York ... you knew that Mark Twain has a New York connection, didn't you?

Even though he grew up only about 30 miles from here, Jim Waddell has certainly taken the scenic route to get to Hannibal. It's always fun to hear stories about colorful characters from someone who is himself a colorful character (and Mark Twain portrayer). And, Jim shares Mark Twain's "A Letter from Santa Claus," so we can call this our Christmas episode.

Ever hear of an "elevator speech?" Our guest on episode 23 is McKenzie Disselhorst, the Executive Director of the Hannibal Area Chamber of Commerce. We cover the chamber's mission of working with the local business community - to help those already here, and to encourage entrepeneurship - even among high school students.
